Bode George Criticizes Tinubu’s Economic Policies and Calls for Electoral Fairness
In a candid critique, former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has voiced his concerns about the economic policies of the Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government, asserting that these policies are causing harm to Nigerians. During a state-of-the-nation press conference held in Lagos, George also expressed reservations about the government’s method of distributing palliatives, labeling it as “voodoo economics.”
George raised pertinent questions about the decision to allocate N5 billion in palliatives to various states, highlighting the economic disparity resulting from this uniform distribution. He questioned the qualifications and understanding of basic economic principles among those responsible for such decisions.
Furthermore, George emphasized the global economic challenges that have affected nations, such as Russia’s gas pipeline shutdown impacting Europe. He stressed the urgency of addressing the hardships faced by Nigerians, including skyrocketing electricity costs and challenges within the healthcare system.
Turning his attention to the ongoing presidential election petition, George urged the judiciary to uphold the integrity of the electoral process. He expressed concerns that an election outcome determined by flawed procedures would tarnish Nigeria’s democratic credentials. George suggested that, if necessary, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should conduct a fresh election, drawing parallels to Kenya’s experience, where a Supreme Court ruling led to a new election and subsequent peace.
George cautioned against allowing the judiciary to dominate the nation’s governance, underlining the importance of maintaining a fair, transparent, and manipulation-free electoral process. His remarks underscore the imperative of preserving Nigeria’s democracy and ensuring electoral fairness.
