In a daring rescue operation, Anambra State Police Command successfully freed a kidnap victim, Abuchi, who had been abducted in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state. The dramatic incident unfolded in Umuota Village, Obosi, where a fierce exchange of gunfire took place between police operatives and the fleeing kidnappers.
Abuchi, a resident of Orumba South LGA in Anambra State, was abducted on a Saturday evening. However, vigilant residents of the area promptly alerted the police, leading to the dramatic rescue.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the state police, disclosed that the police officers were on anti-crime patrol in Obosi when they received information about the kidnapping. In a swift response, the officers engaged the kidnappers in a shootout.
During the operation, one of the kidnappers was shot and arrested, while the others managed to escape, some of them sustaining bullet wounds. The police recovered a double-barrelled pistol, two live cartridges, and one expended cartridge from the gang.
The captured suspect, identified as Nwasu Ikenna from Obosi, provided crucial information about his fleeing accomplices, naming them as Ebuka (aka Big), Chinedu Emmanuel, and Chukwu Ojoto. Tragically, the wounded gang member, who had identified Ebuka as their leader, passed away while being transported to the hospital for treatment.
This incident underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies in tackling criminal activities in the region and serves as a reminder of the vital role played by vigilant communities in the fight against crime.
