EFCC Restores Stolen Millions and Lavish Assets to American Scam Victim – Triumph of Justice!
In a momentous act of justice, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abuja Zonal Command, has returned seized assets to an American victim, Cheryldene Cook, who fell prey to a cunning internet fraudster. This remarkable event unfolded on September 7, 2023, in Abuja.
The recovered assets, valued at an astounding N19,000,000,000 (Nineteen Million Naira), included a three-bedroom semi-detached duplex nestled in the tranquil Ward 36A Amagba Community within Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Additionally, a luxurious Lexus E350 saloon car, the coveted iPhone 13 Pro Max, and a sleek Samsung A31 phone were among the treasures bestowed upon Ms. Cook. This poignant gesture of justice was made possible through the unwavering dedication of the EFCC.
Cheryldene Cook, who journeyed from the United States of America to receive her long-awaited restitution, was accompanied by her legal representative, Dr. Mike Nwosu. Overflowing with gratitude, Ms. Cook conveyed her heartfelt appreciation to the EFCC for their relentless pursuit of justice and the recovery of her assets.
This heartwarming resolution stems from a love scam executed by Aisosa Kelvin Ohue, also known as Frederick Leonard, who impersonated the renowned actor Frederick Leonard to deceive his unsuspecting victim. Orhue was convicted on a three-count charge of obtaining money by false pretense.
One of the charges against Orhue read, “that you, Aiosa Kelvin Orhue (AKA Fredrick Leonard) sometime in 2021, in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of the Honourable Court, by false pretense and with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N104,000,000 (One Hundred and Four Million Naira) from one Cheryldene Cook. You portrayed yourself as Frederick Leonard, professing love and marriage, which you knowingly knew to be false. Thereby, you committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Sections 1 (1)(a) and 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006, respectively.”
This heartening tale serves as a testament to the EFCC’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding citizens from cybercriminals and fraudsters. Justice C.E Nwecheonwu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kuje had previously ordered the forfeiture of Orhue’s illicit gains, ensuring that victims like Cheryldene Cook receive the reparation they rightfully deserve.
