Edo’s Ambrose Alli University in Spotlight Over Potential Expulsion of Student Advocates
In an unexpected move, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, is reportedly considering the expulsion of 16 student union representatives. This decision follows their vocal opposition to a tuition fee increase.
Reports indicate that a document, listing the student leaders and addressed to university officials, is making rounds within academic circles. Notable names include Oshioke Abdulfatai Ibrahim, Bahel Adaeze Princess, and Victor Orobosa Osakue, among others.
Intriguingly, the university is believed to have involved the Department of State Services (DSS) in the matter. It’s suggested that the DSS reached out to the students’ families, potentially exerting pressure on them to backtrack from their protests.
However, the institution’s spokesperson, Otunba Mike Aladenika, challenges these claims. Disputing the rumors of an impending suspension, he labeled the circulating document as potentially speculative. Aladenika emphasized a focus on an ongoing meeting between a few students and the DSS and noted the prior dissolution of the student union.
