Buhari Applauds Tribunal Verdict: Democracy Triumphant
Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has celebrated the recent judgment by the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, hailing it as a victory for both democracy and the Nigerian people. In a statement issued through his media aide, Garba Shehu, Buhari commended the Tribunal’s five-member panel for their steadfast commitment to justice and their refusal to succumb to any form of intimidation.
The former President called upon Nigerians to throw their full support behind President Bola Tinubu, his successor, to enable him to deliver on the promises he made during the election campaign. Buhari emphasized that the real winners in this situation are democracy and the Nigerian populace, highlighting that the court’s verdict signifies the closure of the election season and a chance to move beyond the intense debates and controversies.
Buhari also lauded the Tribunal for making history by upholding principles of justice and impartiality in the face of challenges and prejudice. The Tribunal, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, delivered a unanimous judgment on Wednesday, dismissing the petitions challenging Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election. These petitions had been filed by the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The Tribunal’s decision underscores the significance of democratic processes and reaffirms the pivotal role of the people’s will in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
