Toyin Saraki Joins Terra Carta Seal Expert Panel

In a significant development, a global consortium of experts spanning environmental, business, political, and philanthropic spheres has formed the 2023 Terra Carta Seal Expert Review Panel, a crucial component of the Sustainable Markets Initiative. The panel is set to evaluate and recognize recipients of the prestigious 2023 Terra Carta Seal Awards.

The Terra Carta Seal, unveiled at COP26 in 2021 by King Charles III during his tenure as Prince of Wales, serves as a symbol of recognition for global companies championing efforts to foster a future that is both climate and nature-positive.

Earlier this year, the Sustainable Markets Initiative struck an important partnership with Verdantix, an independent research firm celebrated for pioneering innovations aimed at bettering the world.

The expert panel’s primary mandate involves working closely with Verdantix to meticulously assess nominations and gauge their alignment with the principles outlined in the Terra Carta articles. This year’s distinguished panel includes luminaries such as Toyin Saraki, Founder/President of The Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA); Ankit Lodi, Lead for Sustainability Strategy and Partnerships at Mahindra Group; Ellen Jackowski, Chief Sustainability Officer at Mastercard; Dr. Hubert Danso, CEO/Chairman of African Investor (Ai) Group; Perry Bellegarde, former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN); Pok Wei-Heng, Board Member of Multiethnic Leaders NZ and Strategic Council Member of Climate Catalyst; and ValĂ©rie Plante, Mayor of Montreal, Canada.

Notably, Toyin Saraki brings with her a wealth of experience, having previously served as a judge in prestigious competitions such as the annual MIT Solve competition at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Cannes Lions Film Festival. More recently, she played a vital role as a Grand Global Jury Member of the Fight for Access Accelerator Nigeria, spearheaded by Reckitt and Yunus Social Business (YSB).

Speaking about her role on the Terra Carta Seal Expert Review Panel, the former First Lady of Kwara State expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I am deeply honored and excited to join the esteemed 2023 Terra Carta Seal Expert Review Panel. This prestigious initiative, launched by His Majesty, King Charles III, at COP26, holds the promise of a brighter and more sustainable future for our planet. It is heartening to see global leaders from diverse backgrounds come together to recognize and reward companies that are committed to positive change for both our environment and society. The Terra Carta Seal Award represents a powerful commitment to addressing climate change and nurturing our natural world.”

With the application deadline for the Terra Carta Seal Awards set to close on September 29, this is a pivotal opportunity for companies dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment and society.
