Lagos Blue Line Rail Revolutionizes City Transportation
In a monumental development, the Lagos Blue Line Rail has officially commenced commercial operations, offering a transformative solution to the city’s transportation challenges. The inaugural ride, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and attended by prominent officials, marks a historic moment in Lagos’s quest for efficient commuting.
This groundbreaking rail system, connecting the Marina station to Mile 2, has drastically reduced travel time, with the journey now taking a mere 17 to 20 minutes compared to the hour-long road trip. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the need for residents to acquire the Cowry card, the key to accessing this efficient mode of transportation.
The Blue Line Rail is part of Lagos State’s comprehensive transportation master plan, which encompasses railways, waterways, and road infrastructure. The impending commissioning of the Redline rail project by the President further underscores the commitment to easing traffic congestion and enhancing commuting experiences.
With plans to transport approximately 175,000 passengers daily, the Blue Line Rail will operate 76 trips daily from 5:30 am to 10:00 pm, making brief 90-second stops at each station. Safety measures have been prioritized, including the installation of 300 cameras along the tracks and at stations.
The introduction of the Blue Line Rail is a vital step toward reducing the burden on Lagos’s congested roads and improving the daily lives of its residents.
