The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially lifted its visa ban on Nigerian travelers, marking the end of almost a year of restrictions. This significant development comes as a result of a historic agreement between Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The UAE had imposed a ban on travelers from several African countries, including Nigeria, back in October. However, President Tinubu, who had promised to address this issue upon taking office, has successfully negotiated the removal of this restriction.
As part of the agreement, Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines will promptly resume their flight schedules to and from Nigeria. Notably, this restoration of flight operations does not entail any immediate financial commitments from the Nigerian government.
What makes this agreement even more significant is the economic cooperation it entails. Both nations have established a framework for multi-billion-dollar investments in Nigeria, spanning various sectors like defense and agriculture. These investments will be facilitated through the UAE’s government investment arms.
Additionally, the two presidents have negotiated a foreign exchange liquidity program, the details of which will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
President Tinubu expressed his gratitude to President Al Nahyan for his unwavering friendship and commitment to strengthening relations between the two countries.
This development not only restores hassle-free travel for Nigerians but also paves the way for substantial investments and economic collaboration between Nigeria and the UAE, marking a new chapter in their bilateral relationship.
